On the move

It’s crazy that a whole week has gone by already. Taxi booked for 10.30am. I was awake at 6 and eating biscuits by 7 while catching up with Love Island. I don’t think I like any of them. They merged with a group of Americans, there’s so many now that I can’t keep up with their names.

Packing complete, I realised that Liz had paid me her half of the accommodation weeks ago and I needed to pay the place in cash. I dashed off to the exchange office and also bought 2 coffee cups as no mention of a kettle. I have my trusty Indian element from years ago.

So.. We’re off to Agonda, just a one hour drive away. A bit of trepidation as have friends who love it and stay for months, and friends who say there’s nothing to do.

All booked into our wooden chalets at Abbas I selected a book from the big selection they have in reception.

‘Birds Without Wings’, set in the beautiful area where we live in Turkiye. This will be my 4th attempt at reading it. I also have it on my kindle. I have a signed copy at home. I got it signed in about 2011,when the author visited Kayakoy and showed us the points in the village where chapters were set. I didn’t tell him I’ve never read it. At the tea afterwards I met a lady called Theresa, we’re still friends all these years later.

We have a kettle but Kevin & Sharon don’t so they have the trusty element.

Off we went to explore as it was close to lunchtime by now. I had my backpack plus a huge book and all my beach gear.

We cut through another chalet area and got our first glimpse of the beach. Not sure who it was but one of us said ‘where is everybody’ next.. Almost in unison.. ‘Where are the sunbeds’

So, there’s no sunbeds but a few shacks put a small number by their restaurants. Lovely Assis where we stopped to eat said we can use theirs. Unfortunately they’ve all got towels on them, apart from 2 that were being used.

Breakfast was fab.

We walked past Manveer restaurant, they have sunbeds, Sharon enquired and they’re booked to us for tomorrow.

We strolled down the main village road. It’s so pretty, lots of clothes shops and a big selection of interesting souvenirs.

After a while we stopped for a drink by the river.

Liz and I shopped on the way back. I’m the proud owner of 2 new dresses and a top. Liz bought a beautiful silky housecoat and a stunning skirt.

Kevin and Sharon came over and we all scrunched on to our terrace. There’s no fridges in the rooms but we put drinks in the communal fridge

We went off to eat around 8pm to a place called Greenland. It was really busy, so it must be good.

We instantly disliked our arrogant waiter. Orders placed, we say chatting. And chatting. And chatting.

At 9.30 we enquired about our food. On its way apparently. No apology.

It finally arrived at 10pm. Meanwhile we chatted to a couple who come every year. They’ve given us a list of places and foods to try. They’d also been to Olu Deniz, close to where we live. Yesterday they met a couple from Liverpool, they live in a place called Calis Beach.. Our home. Small world, we probably know them.

The next curfuffle was the bill. We had specified our seperate bills.. Took ages to unravel who had what.

Also a 3% card fee.. Should have been a complimentary coffee rather than any additional charges for us.

Anyway, whilst grumbling 2 guys on motorbikes, very close to each other roared past and one pushed the other to the wall. A fight ensued. We walked by, scared to get involved. There was another 2 local guys observing should it escalate let them sort it.

But rough around here! So glad this is our 2nd week in Goa and not a first impression!

    Off we go to India

The long passage from Turkey to India 1.2.19 Happy 8 year anniversary of moving from the UK to Turkey to us! We had no intention of travelling afar this year but when John’s son asked to come over for a few weeks with his girlfriend, having a house sitter was just too tempting. As in…

    Day 2 in Benaulim, Goa

3.2.26 Despite being totally sleep deprived I was awake really early. The bed is a weird set up, there’s just an under sheet and a pile of thin blankets, no top sheet. I used my beach towel as a sheet. The ceiling fan is super efficient. The problem with waking so early is that it’s…

    2 go exploring

5.2.26 Every morning since we’ve arrived I’ve been awake and eating biscuits by 6am. Today Liz and I are going to Margao market and the alarm was set for 8am. I was dead to the world, reset it for 30minutes, then hit snooze. Liz also struggled, think we’re not used to 2 late nights on…

    Lazy lumps again

6.2.26 Sharon and Kev came to ours with some laundry for our super duper washing machine. Jennifer, the cleaner, said it dries, but it doesn’t. There is a string airer thing, with several strings missing. We had breakfast at the German Bakery which is always busy. I had the hugest bowl of muesli with watermelon,…

    One goes on an adventure

7.2.26 I really wanted to visit Panjim, also known as Panaji for confusion purposes. It’s the capital of Goa province. I was happy to go alone. The others are so happy chilling, I don’t mind it but I love to see new places. Liz told me I was absolutely not allowed to go alone. So…

    A lazy day

8.2.26 We all met up for breakfast at Cinnamon. They didn’t have a muesli fruit and curd option. The closest was a pink bowl option, strawberry and something or other smoothie with muesli. It looked amazing but was basically a smoothie with about a table spoon of bland muesli sprinkled on the top. Cinnamon is…

    Happy birthday Sharon

15.2.26 Liz and I snuck around a lot this morning! First a banner and balloons, then a trip to Romya bakery to order a birthday cake. Breakfast was a special one at Zest, a very upmarket vegetarian restaurant. The menu was a baffling array of healthy goodies merged together in various combinations. I opted for…

It was all going so well

    16. 2.26 We packed up and got ready to leave Agonda. Unfortunately the dress shop was closed. I’ll be looking out for a slim person to gift it to. Our taxi came and we set off for our 25 minute drive to Palolem beach, our home for the next week. FInding accommodation with 2 bedrooms…

    A day on Palolem beach

17.2.26 This morning my bathroom smells like a bonfire. Liz went to meet the manager, he didn’t turn up. The desk guy went to pick him up later, we chatted. He was really shocked by the booking. com listing. He is going to get it amended. He gave us 3000 rupees discount and waived the…

    Lovely Patnem

18.2.26 After our somewhat stressful noisy day at Palolem we opted to take the 20 minute stroll to Partnem. It took a fair bit longer with photo and shop browsing stops. We settled ourselves on the beautiful beach by Nirvana restaurant. I love the way they all provide towels. The staff here were particularly attentive…

21.2.26 Up early today, our tour begins at 8.30am, and we were being picked up at the hotel. They asked if we could change it to 8am because of Ramadam. I asked for it to stay as 8.30am because we want to enjoy our lovely breakfast and it doesn’t open until 7.30am. Our driver was…

    Back to Goa, Palolem

22.2.26 I’ve been so busy trying to catch up with blogging about Mumbai and still a couple of days behind! Kevin and Sharon recommended The Mill, very close to where we’re all staying, for breakfast. It was superb, in a quirky old mill building with a few small rooms. It was definitely the nicest fruit,…

    Day 2 in Betalbatim

24.2.26 I woke early and went and enjoyed the tranquility of the terrace. Nothing but birdsound. The sun was up but there was still a slight chill. Navigators

    27. 2.26 This morning we took a right turn from where we’re staying and by accident discovered a shorter route to the beach. Liz spotted a pair of trousers she liked at the little beach shop, we ignored her and made sure she didn’t get a chance to go and buy them. There were very…

Happy birthday Liz & my Mum

28.2.26 Sharon booked nearby Zen Gardens as a surprise breakfast for Liz’s birthday. We’ve not been before, but all we knew was that it was a buffet. We were stared at as the only foreigners. It was predominantly an Indian breakfast but had delicious rolls, toast and mixed fruit jam. There was fresh papaya and…

    Going nowhere fast

2.3.26 Just before going to bed last night Indigo rang me. Our flight on 3rd March is cancelled. We are now confirmed for 6th March, to Delhi via Ras Al-Khaimah, the northern most state in UAE. A hidden gem apparently. Well hidden from missiles hopefully. We had a lovely breakfast in the apartment and spent…

    The waiting game

3.3.26 Liz got up early, went out and was on a mission. In India they usually provide a bottom sheet and a blanket. Previous places have resolved it, 2 even had nice, thin white duvets. The others have a penchant for white bedding. As a dog owner this has never been even the vaguest requirement…
