21.3.26

Awake again at silly o’clock. I thought my 15km walk in Karwar would have allowed me a lie in past 7am.

Kevin wasn’t feeling great and had a stay in bed in the air con day.

It was less than 24 hours now before our flights. Let’s go for it and check in. At first Air India said no booking found for this flight. Regardless of using PNR number name, phone number or email. Nothing found. My heart sank, pulse rate rose, how on earth would I tell the others. No idea how or why but suddenly there we all were on the system with lovely barcodes, ticket numbers and seat selection.

Tezjet was simple, no bar codes but a nice easy system on their very basic out of the ark website. Less is definitely more sometimes.

Late breakfast, packing, scrolling, checking flight radar, following the latest missile strikes on X, saying prayers and wishing I had a time machine.

Sharon stayed home with Kevin, Liz went to the beach and I relaxed with some episodes of MAFS.

The plan was early dinner at Cedrous just over the road and bed by 6pm. At 5.30pm I left the apartment to feed my waifs and strays that dash out looking for biscuits every time they see me. Liz had lots of left over rice and paneer tikka masala. They were very happy. Awww, I’ll miss them.

Next I said goodbye to the pig that’s always grunting and scavenging in the same spot every day.

The dog on the corner with half a tail wasn’t there and didn’t get her biccys. I left them where she usually sits but for sure the crows will get them first.

I arrived at Cedrous afterwards and waited for Liz & Sharon. Kevin’s staying at home and having toast, if the toaster cooperates.

It was nice to see Christos, the best waiter in Goa, and have a chat about Indian life while waiting. I told him he’s my Indian son. No, not Indian, Goan. They’re all very proud of being Goan.

Lauren told me earlier she was having pineapple rice from our favourite Aussie take away. So I ordered pineapple rice too, nowhere near as good as hers will have been. The Kung Pao chicken was very good though.

Liz had to pop to town after dinner as she noticed that a dress she’d bought only had one neck rope and tassel. By the time she came back it was 8.30 pm, the door lock is ridiculously noisy so I knew I’d be woken.

I didn’t try too hard to go to sleep until I knew she was back. The door only pushes to without the lock, I’m the first target sleeping in the lounge to be murdered or pillaged. I was aware of every sound outside.

I really really wanted a good sleep before our 2 day travels to get home.

As hard as I tried I just could not get to sleep, the more I worried about being tired tomorrow the less I felt remotely drowsy.

There was a lot of outside noise too, bikes back firing, people rearranging furniture above us, trolleys or maybe it was a rubbish cart and a kid with it’s parents shouting loudly in the hallway. All things I never usually notice. Grrrrr.

Alarms are all set for 3am, taxi to Dabolim airport at am. My mind was full of ridiculous random thoughts. What if it all goes horribly wrong and I end up living in India forever? I just can’t!!

    Off we go to India

The long passage from Turkey to India 1.2.19 Happy 8 year anniversary of moving from the UK to Turkey to us! We had no intention of travelling afar this year but when John’s son asked to come over for a few weeks with his girlfriend, having a house sitter was just too tempting. As in…

    Day 2 in Benaulim, Goa

3.2.26 Despite being totally sleep deprived I was awake really early. The bed is a weird set up, there’s just an under sheet and a pile of thin blankets, no top sheet. I used my beach towel as a sheet. The ceiling fan is super efficient. The problem with waking so early is that it’s…

    2 go exploring

5.2.26 Every morning since we’ve arrived I’ve been awake and eating biscuits by 6am. Today Liz and I are going to Margao market and the alarm was set for 8am. I was dead to the world, reset it for 30minutes, then hit snooze. Liz also struggled, think we’re not used to 2 late nights on…

    Lazy lumps again

6.2.26 Sharon and Kev came to ours with some laundry for our super duper washing machine. Jennifer, the cleaner, said it dries, but it doesn’t. There is a string airer thing, with several strings missing. We had breakfast at the German Bakery which is always busy. I had the hugest bowl of muesli with watermelon,…

    One goes on an adventure

7.2.26 I really wanted to visit Panjim, also known as Panaji for confusion purposes. It’s the capital of Goa province. I was happy to go alone. The others are so happy chilling, I don’t mind it but I love to see new places. Liz told me I was absolutely not allowed to go alone. So…

    A lazy day

8.2.26 We all met up for breakfast at Cinnamon. They didn’t have a muesli fruit and curd option. The closest was a pink bowl option, strawberry and something or other smoothie with muesli. It looked amazing but was basically a smoothie with about a table spoon of bland muesli sprinkled on the top. Cinnamon is…

9.2.26 On the move It’s crazy that a whole week has gone by already. Taxi booked for 10.30am. I was awake at 6 and eating biscuits by 7 while catching up with Love Island. I don’t think I like any of them. They merged with a group of Americans, there’s so many now that I…

    Happy birthday Sharon

15.2.26 Liz and I snuck around a lot this morning! First a banner and balloons, then a trip to Romya bakery to order a birthday cake. Breakfast was a special one at Zest, a very upmarket vegetarian restaurant. The menu was a baffling array of healthy goodies merged together in various combinations. I opted for…

It was all going so well

    16. 2.26 We packed up and got ready to leave Agonda. Unfortunately the dress shop was closed. I’ll be looking out for a slim person to gift it to. Our taxi came and we set off for our 25 minute drive to Palolem beach, our home for the next week. FInding accommodation with 2 bedrooms…

    A day on Palolem beach

17.2.26 This morning my bathroom smells like a bonfire. Liz went to meet the manager, he didn’t turn up. The desk guy went to pick him up later, we chatted. He was really shocked by the booking. com listing. He is going to get it amended. He gave us 3000 rupees discount and waived the…

    Lovely Patnem

18.2.26 After our somewhat stressful noisy day at Palolem we opted to take the 20 minute stroll to Partnem. It took a fair bit longer with photo and shop browsing stops. We settled ourselves on the beautiful beach by Nirvana restaurant. I love the way they all provide towels. The staff here were particularly attentive…

    Mumbai tour

21.2.26 Up early today, our tour begins at 8.30am, and we were being picked up at the hotel. They asked if we could change it to 8am because of Ramadam. I asked for it to stay as 8.30am because we want to enjoy our lovely breakfast and it doesn’t open until 7.30am. Our driver was…

    Back to Goa, Palolem

22.2.26 I’ve been so busy trying to catch up with blogging about Mumbai and still a couple of days behind! Kevin and Sharon recommended The Mill, very close to where we’re all staying, for breakfast. It was superb, in a quirky old mill building with a few small rooms. It was definitely the nicest fruit,…

    Day 2 in Betalbatim

24.2.26 I woke early and went and enjoyed the tranquility of the terrace. Nothing but birdsound. The sun was up but there was still a slight chill. Sharon joined me a bit later, she was reading her book, all calm, lovely. Kevin joined us, laptop in hand and began researching breakfast venues. And dinner. And…

26.2.26 I forgot 2 things about yesterday in amongst writing about all the hilarity. Mango Lassi at Anjona Cafe. Omg, I had 2, they were so good. Wilson.. Wilson was our taxi driver from Majorda. In the space of 5 minutes he told us his life story. He spoke perfect English at a rate of…

    Navigators

    27. 2.26 This morning we took a right turn from where we’re staying and by accident discovered a shorter route to the beach. Liz spotted a pair of trousers she liked at the little beach shop, we ignored her and made sure she didn’t get a chance to go and buy them. There were very…

Happy birthday Liz & my Mum

28.2.26 Sharon booked nearby Zen Gardens as a surprise breakfast for Liz’s birthday. We’ve not been before, but all we knew was that it was a buffet. We were stared at as the only foreigners. It was predominantly an Indian breakfast but had delicious rolls, toast and mixed fruit jam. There was fresh papaya and…

    Going nowhere fast

2.3.26 Just before going to bed last night Indigo rang me. Our flight on 3rd March is cancelled. We are now confirmed for 6th March, to Delhi via Ras Al-Khaimah, the northern most state in UAE. A hidden gem apparently. Well hidden from missiles hopefully. We had a lovely breakfast in the apartment and spent…

    The waiting game

3.3.26 Liz got up early, went out and was on a mission. In India they usually provide a bottom sheet and a blanket. Previous places have resolved it, 2 even had nice, thin white duvets. The others have a penchant for white bedding. As a dog owner this has never been even the vaguest requirement…
