15.3.26

Happy Mother’s Day to all the wonderful mums out there.

To treat us 3 fabulous mums we decided to have breakfast at Benos, a place we spotted a couple of days ago.

Actually that’s a complete lie. We didn’t even know it was Mother’s Day until we began receiving texts and calls.

It was heaving in there. Being the only foreigners we had a lot of stares while the staff juggled furniture to find us a table.

We ended up by a speaker, the music was actually great, all British music, there’s nothing like a bit of Tom Jones with your toast. ( my mums favourite hoovering music)

Despite it being great music the volume was overwhelming. We’re definitely all turning into whinging old people. Our latest catchphrase has become ‘and another thing’. I guess it’s inevitable as we are all 6 weeks older than when we arrived.

We discussed how to sort the world out the other day. I would start at the top – I have a long list. Sharon would start with all the bottom feeders that contribute nothing.

The war in the Middle East of course is a huge concern. We share scary stories that we’ve read overnight when we unite first thing. Not really a good practice, we need to stay positive but it’s inevitable in the circumstances.

Anyway, back to the whinging breakfast club..We waited over 30 minutes to have orders taken and almost a further 30 for 4 coffees to arrive. To be fair the menu warned us!

It was fab coffee and worth the wait. We’ve had a lot of dire coffee in the last 6 weeks.

The others were healthy, opting for eggs benedict whilst I spotted a smoothie bowl.

I was admiring the selection of marshmallows and cookies. The lady that makes them brought us some little sample cubes to try. They were delicious but expensive.

By now we had changed tables to avoid the speaker but actually ended up at the point where 2 speakers met. It was OK, the music was good and we’d adapted to the volume a bit. A musician arrived, he proceeded to sing a series of covers, he was very good but equally loud.

The food was OK, I had a massive caffeine and sugar hit from the dark chocolate and espresso. The others felt mildly queasy for the rest of the day, they think from ordering 2 coffees each. I’m not convinced.

The moral to that story is that chocolate is healthier than eggs.

The cover story said slow coffees and we definitely stayed longer than we planned.

Off to the beach. I asked these men if I could take their photo. I love it.

The sea breeze was lovely, Sharon and Kevin played in the waves for ages, the sea felt hot. Liz and I stayed much later.

We saw clouds!!!

My app is showing 15% chance of rain on Wednesday. Omg, that would be fabulous.

On the way back, hours later, the fishermen were still preparing their nets. No way I could sit in that position for so many hours. Must be back breaking, and I’m sure it’s for little financial reward. It’s very humbling and puts our grumbles into perspective.

Showers and regroup, off to Leda tonight as they might be having live music. That means is chicken Makhani night. So much temptation on the menu, but have to have the Makhani. An initial panic, the menu is limited due to the gas supply issues India are experiencing because of the Iranian situation.

Many restaurants have had to close, it’s very sad.

Our Makhani arrived but luke warm. It was the chefs birthday and I think he must have prepared it before they called him out of the kitchen to play happy birthday and bang pots and pans.

Good old microwave and it was perfect.

They had a singer, very good and such a lovely man. He chatted to us for ages, really interesting and well travelled. He had great stories from his cruise ship days.

We told him about our planned route home. Sorry, where?

Here.. I showed him a map. ‘Well it must exist if it’s on a map’ he said laughing and bemused.

He knew of Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan is bigger so it must be OK. Great logic.

In other news, 2 of the flights we’ll take a week today took off. Too soon to be excited but YAYYYYYY!!!!!

The long passage from Turkey to India 1.2.19 Happy 8 year anniversary of moving from the UK to Turkey to us! We had no intention of travelling afar this year but when John’s son asked to come over for a few weeks with his girlfriend, having a house sitter was just too tempting. As in…

    Day 2 in Benaulim, Goa

3.2.26 Despite being totally sleep deprived I was awake really early. The bed is a weird set up, there’s just an under sheet and a pile of thin blankets, no top sheet. I used my beach towel as a sheet. The ceiling fan is super efficient. The problem with waking so early is that it’s…

    2 go exploring

5.2.26 Every morning since we’ve arrived I’ve been awake and eating biscuits by 6am. Today Liz and I are going to Margao market and the alarm was set for 8am. I was dead to the world, reset it for 30minutes, then hit snooze. Liz also struggled, think we’re not used to 2 late nights on…

    Lazy lumps again

6.2.26 Sharon and Kev came to ours with some laundry for our super duper washing machine. Jennifer, the cleaner, said it dries, but it doesn’t. There is a string airer thing, with several strings missing. We had breakfast at the German Bakery which is always busy. I had the hugest bowl of muesli with watermelon,…

    One goes on an adventure

7.2.26 I really wanted to visit Panjim, also known as Panaji for confusion purposes. It’s the capital of Goa province. I was happy to go alone. The others are so happy chilling, I don’t mind it but I love to see new places. Liz told me I was absolutely not allowed to go alone. So…

    A lazy day

8.2.26 We all met up for breakfast at Cinnamon. They didn’t have a muesli fruit and curd option. The closest was a pink bowl option, strawberry and something or other smoothie with muesli. It looked amazing but was basically a smoothie with about a table spoon of bland muesli sprinkled on the top. Cinnamon is…

    Happy birthday Sharon

15.2.26 Liz and I snuck around a lot this morning! First a banner and balloons, then a trip to Romya bakery to order a birthday cake. Breakfast was a special one at Zest, a very upmarket vegetarian restaurant. The menu was a baffling array of healthy goodies merged together in various combinations. I opted for…

It was all going so well

    16. 2.26 We packed up and got ready to leave Agonda. Unfortunately the dress shop was closed. I’ll be looking out for a slim person to gift it to. Our taxi came and we set off for our 25 minute drive to Palolem beach, our home for the next week. FInding accommodation with 2 bedrooms…

    A day on Palolem beach

17.2.26 This morning my bathroom smells like a bonfire. Liz went to meet the manager, he didn’t turn up. The desk guy went to pick him up later, we chatted. He was really shocked by the booking. com listing. He is going to get it amended. He gave us 3000 rupees discount and waived the…

    Lovely Patnem

18.2.26 After our somewhat stressful noisy day at Palolem we opted to take the 20 minute stroll to Partnem. It took a fair bit longer with photo and shop browsing stops. We settled ourselves on the beautiful beach by Nirvana restaurant. I love the way they all provide towels. The staff here were particularly attentive…

    Back to Goa, Palolem

22.2.26 I’ve been so busy trying to catch up with blogging about Mumbai and still a couple of days behind! Happy birthday Liz & my Mum

28.2.26 Sharon booked nearby Zen Gardens as a surprise breakfast for Liz’s birthday. We’ve not been before, but all we knew was that it was a buffet. We were stared at as the only foreigners. It was predominantly an Indian breakfast but had delicious rolls, toast and mixed fruit jam. There was fresh papaya and…

    The waiting game

3.3.26 Liz got up early, went out and was on a mission. In India they usually provide a bottom sheet and a blanket. Previous places have resolved it, 2 even had nice, thin white duvets. The others have a penchant for white bedding. As a dog owner this has never been even the vaguest requirement…
