5.7.24

I set my alarm for 6am, midnight in the UK, to see the election results come in and then was glued until almost midday when our Grab driver came to collect us.

Poor John was very sick this morning, he’d hardly slept because he felt sick and he dozed off again until we got ready to leave.

No sign of anyone working this morning, same thing happened in Khao Takiap. It feels weird just leaving keys and no goodbyes.

The Curve was a great place to stay, 3 or 4 minutes to great food places and a nice stroll to the beach.

Another steady Grab driver although he didn’t seem too happy about not turning right back to Hua Hin. When booking we supplied our destination, so not sure why he seemed a bit miffed. It must be hard for them to find work with so few people around this time of year.

My ant bite has now swollen to a large itchy lump. I’ve no idea how an ant bite could cause so much annoyance.

Mr Moany Chuckle driver had 2 phones, 1 with a map and another he kept using while driving.

He constantly talked into it and I could make out the words Hua Hin, Pranburi and Sam Roi Yot. He did this several times and groaned at every turning and asking if we wanted dropping off.

But each time we spoke to him he chuckled and seemed so sweet. It was like having 2 drivers.

After about 40 minutes we reached Blue Beach Resort.

It’s beautiful, a real slice of paradise. Our room is basic, clean and the gardens are just lovely.

We left our bags and strolled along the beach side, had iced drinks, strolled some more and saw some scooters for rent on the side of the road.

An English voice called us, he was renting the scooters. I’ll change his name to Larry in case anyone reads this and knows him. He was a fountain of useful knowledge and a chain smoker. He’s lived here for years after spending a fortune in Hua Hin drinking and whoreing.

Anyway, he said to go back at 6pm if we wanted a scooter, 250 thb a day, or 400 for 2 days. We’re only booked here for 2 days, but will happily stay an extra night as it’s really lovely.

It’ll be fine with a bit of WD 40.

We turned back and started looking for places to eat. Many places were closed, only the  street side stalls selling meat on sticks and hot dog sausages. I bought a stick for a street dog. He was very happy.

John felt poorly again and just wanted to go and lie down so I explored alone and found somewhere open and asked for chicken rice, and an iced mocha. The mocha was gorgeous, but I could only manage half the rice. I swear it had an entire bunch of coriander in it, it was too spicy and every so often there was a slight crunch, like sand.

I left while they were eating so that I didn’t have to explain myself.

John slept, I watched tv and at 6pm we went off to see Larry and got our scooter. We must remember to drive on the left. I have Larrys phone number in case of any problems with the Police etc ( maybe I could do some online whoreing if inflation keeps rising in Turkey)

Off we went, wearing our helmets, even though he was adamant we don’t need them.

On the side of the road not far away was a busy restaurant. It was buffet barbecue and hot pot.

It was a little tricky understanding but I really enjoyed it. Poor John ate so little, I had chicken, sausage, pork, crab sticks, rice, noodles and liver. Some people were making their own papaya salads with a pestle and mortar, I wished I’d paid more attention at  Vietnamese cooking school.

I watched a lady toasting bread one side, piling butter on, then pouring what turned out to be condensed milk on it. I now have a new addiction.

Felt so sorry for John and hope he’s fighting fit tomorrow.

We were dirty stop outs, got back at 7.45pm. Did a little bit of laundry, sadly no drying rack so it’s like a Chinese laundry in our room.

Johns fallen asleep while I’m writing this. He’s really not himself.

I’m really looking forward to tomorrows adventures, we’ve researched it well. Oh and Larrys insider knowledge will be great I’m sure.
