Do we really have to leave?

25.2.16

After our wonderful day trip yesterday we chilled outside our Puri Oka bungalow listening to the sea.
We had to go to the ATM to get money to pay for the hotel so instead of going back to Warung Boni , which was very tempting, we opted for Legong restaurant which at least had a few customers.
They also had a sign about dancers so John jokingly asked where they were and the waitress said she would give them a call.
A bit later a little girl and a little boy turned up in traditional costume.
The girl, who we found out is 10 had full make up and I couldn’t help but feel there was something just a little bit wrong about it.

Maybe we’ve just been too exposed to stories of paedophiles in our culture but I wouldn’t have let my daughter perform at 9pm in a bar environment at 10 years old
It wasn’t so much a dance, more slow hand and foot  movements.
Then it was the boys turn, he was 11.
He had a long spear, again a series of foot movements and a bit of bum wiggling, almost zumba like wiggles and jabbing motions with the spear.

Our food was good, of course John had curry and I opted for pizza as my stomach has been rebelling against all the spices for the last few days.

This morning I felt really sad as we watched the waves at breakfast and even had a few tears as we said our goodbyes.
The last time a country affected me like this I ended up moving there, to Turkey. Turkey often feels like it’s too far from family and friends, so Bali is definitely not an option, despite all the beautiful cheap villas John keeps finding online.

We’re currently on our way to Denpasar airport. We left at 9 am and it’s about a 2 hour journey.
We stopped for petrol, it’s just 38p a litre!

After 30 minutes we changed from single to dual carriageway.
Whilst it’s less scary than Nancy’s driving at least there was nothing else on the road when she drove us, and she was going very slowly so not a lot could have happened to us.

We had one close shave where the car in front was braking and we weren’t.
We had to ‘remind’ the driver to stop, ‘no problem ‘ was his response.
There doesn’t seem to be any rules about lanes and overtaking on the inside seems to be normal. Scooters dodge in between and there’s a lot of tooting, not in a road rage way but in a watch out I’m coming through way.

Driving in Bali traffic
Traffic on the way to Denpasar airport, very scary journey

I’m hating every minute of it and there’s still an hour to go. Our flight to Singapore is at 1pm.

We’re just going through Sanur now, the first glimpse of Westernisation we’ve seen in Bali, Mc Donalds and Pizza Hut on the main road.
Kuta is the party capital and I’m so glad we avoided it.
The outskirts are full of factory outlet stores, big hotels and places with Aussie names. Nothing quaint or beautiful about this side of the island.

Thankfully arrived without incident, 20 minutes earlier than we thought we would be.
A simple check in and time to read about our next accomodation.

I decided to read about where we’ve booked in Singapore. Its a very expensive city to stay in, but I found a budget hotel, Hotel 101
I obviously didn’t study it too much, as some of the reviews I read this morning are dreadful!
The photos of the rooms look great but some say those are nothing like the reality.
It’s in a red light area, prostitutes outside and rooms rented by the hour.
It’s going to be interesting!!!

Had coffee and cake and took off just a few minutes late.

Denpasar Bali to Singapore
So sad to be leaving Bali

Bye bye Bali 🙁
