Our last day in Prague

29.5.25

We set out quite early and got 2 metros to Prague Castle.

Photo overload again.

Overall we much preferred the castle at Chesky Krumlov. It had more of a feeling of being within castle walls, and was more rustic.

We didn’t pay for the full ticket which includes the palaces and entrance to St Vitus Cathedral. We’re not really fans of ostentatius palaces and it would be a very expensive way to see the Cathedral interior. So here’s a google image.

When we exited the castle we began to recognise some of the beautiful Loreta area where we were a couple of days ago. We realised that some of the places on our wish list were beautiful places we’d seen, Vysehrad, Hradcany, Nova Svet, Nerudova St, so tick tick tick.

We came across a beautiful church with a beautiful sentiment.

The Chaplain, in full army uniform was showing a mum and her toddler around, he was just lovely with them.

Next stop, the John Lennon Wall. I was indifferent about seeing it, but it was actually amazing to see.

After John Lennon’s death on the 8th of December 1980, a young Czech artist made a graffiti dedicated to John Lennon on this wall. More people supported this initiative and the plain white wall turned rainbow with quotes of John Lennon’s songs and wishes for world peace.

One of the best things about walking a city is when Google takes you through little cut throughs. There have been loads in Prague, ranging from posh arcades to rustic steps. I loved this one.

Last stop Kampa Island where we ate cookies and planned the rest of the day.

Prague Zoo

Only one thing for it – the ZOO!! We did lots of research beforehand. Depending on which site you view it is rated 4th or 5th best in the world.

A metro and a bus later we were there.

It really is an incredible zoo, huge enclosures, constant improvements and the first we’ve seen with toys and objects such as bags, kongs, and boxes for animals to open to get food and treats.

I have a very vague childhood memory of Przewalski’s horses. I was definitely very young, about the same age as when I memorised all the dog breeds an a large cream book. Yep. Odd.

I’m not a huge fan of horses but remember a fascination with these.

As we were about to exit the zoo I realised we had missed them. It was almost 500m to see them. Our feet were throbbing and it was uphill, but I was so glad we saw them.

There’s a whole yurt dedicated to the story of how some were transported to where they they originated from.

A tram and 2 buses and a short walk later we were at our new favourite restaurant, Ha Long, where we ate the first evening.

It had to be the Ayam Sot soup to start as we’ve been drooling since we had it before. Hmmm, mains, tricky, really fancied the Bun Cha as before but went wild and tried something different. Peanut sauce with vegetables, chicken and rice for me, Thai chicken curry for John.

I was starving having only eaten a few cookies all day, but just after starting my delicious main I felt really full and extremely hot.

It was aImost like the anxiety that I used to feel as a kid when presented with food I hated, that would ultimately end in a row or a slapping. I tried to eat some more, as I have a fear of not finishing my plate but just couldn’t do it justice. (crikey I’m quite damaged aren’t I, no wonder I immersed myself in books!)

We had it boxed up and went to Lidl to get snacks for tomorrow’s bus journey to Bratislava. Long story short I had to leave John to finish the shopping and pay a visit to KFC…

I still have an unopened bag of mustard crisps to get through and now I have a pack of barbeque nacho crisps. John was so proud as he knows I like barbeque flavour. I hate nachos, but lets see if they’re better than mustard crisps in a starvation scenario.

Good night from Prague. What an amazingly beautiful city, it’s been fabulous.
