We were picked up at midday by our Grab driver. Another sedate sensible driver. If only they knew what we’re used to!
It was only 15 to 20 mins to The Curve, our accomodation in Khao Tao.
I’ve called it accomodation, as concrete jungle sounds rude. It’s not a hotel, but individual self contained units.

Ok.. It’s a concrete jungle, with the smiliest lady on reception and a concrete balcony. It’s super clean and even has a hair dryer and a kettle.
Even the bedside tables are made of.. Painted concrete 🤣
On the way to The Curve we spotted a few restaurants, we dumped our bags and tried to work out how to get there without getting killed on the concrete flyover.
An old man on a motorbike stopped and pointed to a gap in the wall. Perfect. Over the train tracks and we were there.

John nearly stood on a bright green snake, which was impossible to see afterwards in the grass.
We’re definitely not in a tourist area. Hardly anything is written in English, we relied on google translate to help.
I decided to keep mine simple, chicken & rice.

John went for gizzard stew. Seafood, meat, glass noodles cauliflower and some very strong chilli that made him cough loads. Seeing him slowly dying of chilli poisoning they brought him some tissues.

We then found an amazing pineapple smoothie and iced coffee in a seperate eatery. There was the tiniest black kitten, apparently it does have a mummy cat.
We went for a wander and spotted temples, a market and an animal rescue organisation, all through the same gate.
We had a lovely chat with one of the rescuers, they’re doing a fabulous job. John bought one of their t shirts and we donated the rest to them.

I was disappointed by the reservoir, it looked huge on the map. Later we found it, it’s very large.
Behind the temples was the beach, a continuation of the soft, fine sand of Hua Hin and Khao Takiab.
We walked along the beach trying to find our way up the mountain to the gold statues.
It was like deja vu going all the way round the river to find the steps. The buildings round there were very basic with tin rooves.

We soon saw all the temples, Buddist and Chinese and made our way to the viewpoint. There’s a lot building in progress.

Over Hua Hin there had been black clouds, now they’d moved over to us. We just made it to a coffee shop and waited until it stopped.
By now we were hungry, again, we ventured back across the train tracks. Stopped at almost the first place, got talked into massuman curry, John chose a pork steak. He felt cheated after trying my curry it was divine. We will be back there tomorrow.
Really like Khao Tao, there are so many smiley friendly people here, it’s honestly got better and better the further south we’ve gone.
