I could get used to this

Today is just for chilling with our gorgeous view.
Had toast & jam for breakfast and John had omelette. What a gorgeous breakfast setting.

Went to reception to ask them to ring yesterdays taxi driver for a day trip tomorrow, airport transfer Thursday and to report water leak under the sink.
T hey rang the driver and he wanted 400000 for each journey. We were quoted 300000 for each yesterday, so told him no thanks.
He said he would come here to discuss price, but I said there was no point.
The hotel manager appeared, made a phone call, 300000 for each, at the same time the other guy appeared.
All very awkward and he said I had promised, and we made a quick exit back to our room and left them discussing.
It’s very different to Turkey, no raised voices, everyone’s very calm.

Sat over looking the sea, just gorgeous.

Candidasa Bali

We had a look on trip advisor for restaurants as we really don’t fancy taking pot luck along Candidasa street again.
Came across number 2, Warung Boni, which is just 6 minutes walk in the opposite direction from where we’re staying.
We’d asked last night about going to the right and were told its just village.

So at lunchtime we strolled along there, fabulous little place, makes all the difference with staff who take the time to explain the menu, ask how spicy you want etc.
John ordered, surprise surprise, curry and was the best he’s had all holiday.
I had pork noodles, they were really good.
Think we shall be going back there tonight.

We decided to go and see the cat sanctuary at a hotel near the lotus lagoon, unfortunately the lady wasn’t there and the staff seemed to think the cats aren’t actually housed there which is different to what we read in a booklet.
We would have liked to say hello and left a donation. Apparently the woman there has financed neutering of 144 cats.

Decided to look at the temple across the road, had to borrow a sarong, and it was probably the least impressive temple we’ve seen, its just very black.

It had started to cloud over and I said those famous last words ‘ its not going to rain’. It started once we had clambered up some steep steps to see the view.

At the top were some builders who are making further temples out of more black stone, using bamboo poles for scaffolding. They stopped to eat their lunch and didn’t look overly impressed at us sheltering under their new construction.
Great views though.

Candidasa Bali

It eased off and we made a dash for it but then had to shelter outside a tailor shop as it came down in bucket loads.
Waited and waited, made another dash for it whilst praying no one came through the huge puddles and drenched us.

Finally made it to the little supermarket to get ice cream. I opted for a bright blue lolly which was cola float flavour and very good. Set off back to our place, it started raining again, but thankfully not so hard as there’s nowhere along our little road to shelter.

Before we went out I moved the airers (that reminds me, we should return one to next door now there’s someone staying in there!) There’s a little courtyard at the back with an outdoor shower and the sun was on it, I put them there instead of undercover out the front in the shade. Of course our washing got soaked. Well, Johns did, mine was partially undercover 🙂
We had also left our towels on the sunbeds which we wanted as they had a brolly, but luckily the cafe staff moved them.

We had a couple of vodkas on our little terrace and a swim.
The weather is gorgeous again now.
John went for a run, while I showered and watched a couple if episodes of Corrie.
All kicking off on there, what on earth is Leanne going to do with Simon?

The sunset tonight was stunning, too cloudy last night but this more than made up for it.

Strolled along to little Warung Boni, fabulous food again, very quiet though, its quiet everywhere. There was only a couple of other people eating there too.
I had pork satay, it was incredible. John resisted having curry twice in a day and had seafood rice which was also excellent. I had fried potatoes too, which was chips in a slightly seasoned very light batter, yum.

We took a gamble coming at this time of year, being out of season, but we’re loving the tranquility and having everywhere almost to ourselves, aside from the odd short late afternoon downpour its been perfect. Temperatures are the same all year round, average 31 degrees.
It does worry me though how the businesses survive.

We stopped for desert at a rather posh looking place next to ours, John fancied the apple tart tatin, I fancied lemon torte but when we tried them we swapped.
Again, very quiet, a table of 3 others, and lots of geckos to watch.

Came back and watched the last episode of The Real Marigold Hotel. A group of older celebrities travel to India to see if they would consider moving there for their retirement. Best programme we’ve watched for ages – if you haven’t seen it get it on BBC IPlayer.

It’s made me wonder if India should be our next adventure?
