Bratislava Central Europe

Good morning from Bratislava, Slovakia.

31.5.25

I’m not sure whether the trams run all night but I’ve been awake pretty much since the first one I heard at 5am, followed not long after by the dustmen.

Before setting out for the day John nipped to Tesco for Danish pastries which we had whilst watching the Darts final from Thursday. We already knew the result from the online spoilers but still fab to watch.

We walked to Bratislava Castle and had a wander through the grounds, then along the Riverside to Eurova Mall. We went to Decathlon, a new backpack for John and walking socks for me. Of course we went to Primark. More vest tops and shorts for me!

We checked out the food court in the mall. It was paradise.

The hardest part was narrowing down what to choose. We chose fine vegetable noodles and honey chicken in the lightest, tastiest, batter for just over €6.

In both Czechia and Slovakia dogs are welcome on public transport and in shopping malls.

Where we had lunch a man was training a potential service dog. It was a beautiful black lab, so laid back and gentle. I’d love to do that job. Having to go to that mall with that gorgeous dog every Saturday and eat that superb food? Yes please. He’s a volunteer. Huge admiration for anyone that gives up their time to ultimately change someones life.

Back through to the old town, beer, hot chocolate, ticky tacky shops and back to collect our bags from the jolly man at Hyde Park.

We still managed to clock up 10km today even though Bratislava is tiny by Prague standards.

It was 29 degrees today, clear blue sky. Apparently its been 17 and raining in Fethiye – so unusual!

We caught tram number 1 to Hvlana Stanica, the main station, then the number 61 trolley bus to Letisko airport. Hate this part of travelling, but looks like all is on time and can’t wait to see our Maisy dog.

I was worried about her being at the dog sitter without our old Honey dog, but there’s a 6 month puppy there, desperately looking for a mummy figure. She loves Maisy and they’ve been playing.

No. Just no. No more pets. Stay strong, we can do this…..

Our 7.05pm flight to Dalaman, Türkiye was perfectly on time, thank you Ryanair, but I just wish we didn’t have to go through the stress of their smaller bag size, threats of not sitting together if we didn’t pay for a seat etc etc. It definitely takes some of the excitement away and doesn’t make me want to rush to book again.

We had an excellent time exploring Prague and Bratislava, I would definitely recommend this part of the world, fabulous culture and scenery.

We arrived home safe and sound, thank you Jamie so much for our excellent shuttle service.

John is sporting several bruises on his legs from his escalator escapades and has an Indian looking bindi on his forehead from the dog bite! Poor John.

I’m a kilo more than when I left. Just proves that it doesn’t matter how many kms you walk if you eat too much food and ice creams.

Thank you Maya & Martin for taking excellent care of our furries.

I’m going to search now for any novels that focus on the history of the region and explore the impacts on the people as it transitioned through wars and communism.

If anyone can recommend any I’d be very grateful.
