24.7.24

We got off the S1 bus from Bangkok airport, walked along the broken and often blocked pavements and decided no way we’re doing that again to get back to the airport in a couple of days.

We’re staying at Roof View Place. No idea of the area name, although it’s not far from Kao  San Road.

We’d been up since 4.30 am, our Air Asia flight was delayed 2 and a half hours and the bus was a further hour.

When the guy at the hotel desk purely said ‘passports’ I instantly disliked him and the place.

We were up on the 5th of 6th floors but used the metal cage thing which hoists luggage up the stairs. Hoisting ourselves up the stair case was tough.

Our room is about a 5 on the Brett Class spectrum. 10 being the highest.

It’s a reasonable size but very basic and nothing like the photos online. It has a curtain instead of a bathroom door and don’t get me started on the balcony and its view.

By this time we would have slept anywhere and didn’t have the inclination to query it.

During our pavement wars with the suitcases I’d spotted an interesting eatery.

It was huge, with 3 different sections, 1 very ordinary, 1 arched pretty bit where we sat and 1 part that looked like a cross between Downton Abbey and Disney.

The food was good, the ambience was great and somewhat confusing as to who sits where.

We later realised it’s down to your outfits. Some in the posh part were so overdressed, with bouffon hair and huge satin frocks that it bordered on comedic.

The food was great and the same staff served in each area.

We opted for ice cream afterwards, mine was coffee, Johns rum and raisin was vanilla with a raisin on the top.

It wasn’t the relaxed nice birthday meal that we’d imagined but very pleasant none the less. John said the seabass was delicious.

Thank goodness half of the long journey back to Turkey is done and breakfast doesn’t finish til 10am.
