Last stop of our Northern Aegean motorhome trip – Akyaka, Muğla

24.9.23

It was dark when we arrived in Akyaka last night so waking up to this gorgeous view was a nice surprise.

Considering we were well off the beaten track it was surprisingly busy and noisy.

Around 11.30pm a boat owner was running his poot poot engine for ages with some clearly overtired snivelling kid who should have been in bed. Apparently later there were a group of men talking loudly, I slept through that.

All was peaceful in the morning, the tide was low and like a mill pond. Beautiful.

A great place for breakfast and to enjoy the sunshine for a while. The wind got up after a short time and around 80 kite surfers gradually appeared.

Maisy was fascinated, she loves watching birds and these were extra large ones. She thought she might catch one that came close to the shoreline. Considering how bad the standard of driving and spatial awareness is here, no one crashed.

We decided to stay another night and began to play rummicub hunkered away from the wind between Naz and another van. It was really windy!

Dinner was a case of what was left in the freezer, chicken schnitzels and pasta with satay sauce, actually it was delicious.

The mozzies were out in force by the time we’d eaten so we packed up and rushed inside feeling paranoid and itchy all over.

In a very short space of time we had at least 20 inside, my homemade net screen doesnt fit tightly enough to stop the buggars creeping in.

Door shut, mozzie bashing time.

We were also down to the dregs of tv downloads. Watched a Netflix suggested download about all you can eat buffets, cheers for that Netflix, our Poullet Pasta a la Satay seems boring now.

Then we watched the first episode of Love & Anarchy. John questions why all my downloads are foreign but he was disappointed we didnt have episode 2.

Then a couple of episodes of Down for Love, which is just lovely and then we found ourselves googling whether 2 people with Downs Syndrome would automatically have a child with Downs Syndrome and about Mosaic Downs Syndrome. It’s really interesting.

Getting the dogs out for their last wee was challenging. We daren’t put the light on. Poor Honey faceplanted the floor getting back in. She’s at least 13 bless her and Johns had to lift her in a few times on this trip. Poor old girl, she’s deaf so doesn’t hear John telling her to wait. All Maisy is interested in is her bedtime snack, no consideration while leaping across Honeys head to get in first.

We ended up with at least half a dozen more mozzies.

We considered driving home, it’s only around 2 hours away, but I really hate travelling at night, since we once had a puncture in the dark. So we’re hoping that the last mozzie had gone and that no one would start any boat engines.

We made it through the night bite free.

Usually it’s horrible when a trip ends, but we’re meeting up with UK friends Guy and Grant for dinner this eve before they go home, and Kevin & Linda who are over too for another week, with Lynne, Dave, Linda & Keith.

Tomorrow a UK bestie Paula and her daughter Charlotte arrive. Wooohoooo!

Best get a decent shower, hair wash, hair removed and brows plucked. Van tripping makes you very unkempt in no time at all.

There’s a mountain of laundry and the market shopping to do as well.

Really enjoyed our adventures and looking forward to the next ones.

Quick update.. Cheers Muğla Water.. arrıved home to low water pressure, less than the pressure in a motorhome. Could be worse, many people in our area have no water at all. Great in 34 degrees 💦

Ahhh, nice to be home.
