We rarely do a beach day
14.8.15
It’s a rarity to sit on a beach when travelling. We live in a tourist resort surrounded by beaches so always feel it’s a wasted day when we could be exploring new places. I’m not sure how today came about, maybe we felt we’d seen most of Split.
So only a short blog today as nothing too much to report.
We took our iPads, bacon crisps and chocolate biscuits and walked down to one of the bays about 20 minutes downhill from our apartment.
I just chilled reading Kane and Abel which I’d had on my Kindle app for years and was really enjoying it.
John was reading a compilation of 5 books in one story. He has the concentration span of a gnat, another reason for very few chill days!
He went off for a run, crazy in such heat and did just over 7km.
I just enjoyed the scenery and indulgent laziness.

On a sadder note….on 1st August Johns mum died.
He hadn’t seen her for over 20 years, she disliked boys and he has no happy childhood memories. In the same way, she never wanted to meet his sons.
Even so at 2.30 pm he took my hand and said it was time for her funeral.
He had tears in his eyes because he feels let down and is mourning for the mum he wishes he had, but mostly was thinking of his sisters who will be finding today a very hard day.
Lots of love to Rachel and Suzanne x
Not many locals were using sunbeds, they seemed happy to just roast, only a few had umbrellas.
I realised that for the cost of 2 sunbeds and a brolly you could buy 6 pork chops and 2 packs of steak, so in comparison that’s a crazy amount for people to pay.
The bar by our bay was charging double the normal prices but a few metres away beer was at normal price.
Crazy.
The beach was busy considering it wasn’t the weekend and even busier when we left around 6.30 pm, people must come after work I guess.

The sea was absolutely crystal clear and warm.
Cake vendors walk up and down all day and while having a beer we watched an old man with the worst vest suntan lines you’ve ever seen setting up his gas bottle and big pots, he was boiling corn on the cob which he later walked up and down the beach selling- wearing his vest.
Had a lovely relaxing day and of course a hill, actually 2, to climb to get back to where we were staying. We always manage to stay up a hill.

After a shower and change we set to off to find Splits’ only Chinese restaurant as we had read great reviews and love a Chinese.
John played a blinder with the map again (!) But we got there eventually.

Very disappointed with our set menu, it didn’t taste as good as it looked.
Everything was swimming in soy sauce so it all tasted the same.
Our homemade sausage sandwiches were so much better!

We caught the number 18 bus back. Couldn’t face anymore hills.
We’re off to Hvar island on the ferry tomorrow for 3 nights. Really excited!
Observations :-
Beautiful blue flag beaches
We haven’t seen a single street dog and very few cats. Seen lots of people out with dogs on leads.
Hills!
Cars stop at zebra crossings, generally better drivers.
Feels very Italian
