Time to explore Bratislava.

24.9.24

I stirred at around 5am, Carol was scrolling on her phone.

I turned over and went back to sleep and at 7.45am she was still scrolling.

She was so excited by now to be able to make a noise and began to bounce around the room, bless her. Think Duracell Bunny.

I only have one complaint about this hotel, actually 2 complaints, no kettle and no fridge. I had to fake excitement until I got a coffee fix.

Breakfast was superb, a huge choice. I selected a croissant to put my scrambled egg and beans in, only to find it was a chocolate one.

I hate waste, so had to eat it. It was so good that I had to have another to be sure.

Knowing we have only 8 hours worth of things to see and 2 days here meant we could take our time and keep grazing. The raspberry jam was very good too.

Our first point of exploration was Bratislava Castle, the symbol for everything here.

It was ok. The photos are so amazing, but clearly done by drones.

Lesson 1 today – go in the designated gates. We went up a lot of steps, and followed the walls around and came to a dead end.

These people followed us!

Correct gate found, photo opportunities taken, a stroll round the garden, time to leave.

Most people would go back the way they came but we went all around the perimeter and the only exit was closed off. We could see people down below so didn’t give up. Right at the end of the garden we saw a couple going down some steps.

Finally we were out of the grounds. But look where we ended up! Back at our hotel.

I think we used 2 of our required 8 hours just trying to escape the castle grounds.

We strolled for a while, then got distracted by Lidl. Most items are cheaper in Turkiye apart from alcohol, which is getting dearer all the time.

Temptation everywhere

We were very good and didn’t buy anything.

There are so many amazing buildings, but Bratislava won’t be in my memories as a beautiful place, the mix of old and new don’t blend at all. Sadly lots of graffiti everywhere.

Men and their beer.

After such a large breakfast we opted for a light healthy lunch. It was fabulous.

Carol took on the role of map reading, we didn’t get lost, she enjoyed following a paper map and we arrived back at the Ibis on purpose this time to rest our bones.

The reception staff were very nice about us (Carol) leaving our room keycard in the room and made a new one for us.

Carol studied the map while I blogged and we have a list of places to explore tomorrow, including…. Tun tun tun… Primark.

Time to go out to eat.

Conundrum… I now have 1 newly made room card. Carol says she originally had 1 card. As we got to the lift she found 2 cards in her bag, which she had excavated earlier. Clues anyone???

We found a great little Italian place and had pizzas. When in Rome and all that… Personally I think it’s well justified because the local dish is potato dumplings with sour cream in sheep cheese.

Carol asked for some chilli. She got red chilli peppers which she didn’t like and left on her plate. The waiter must have thought she was strange.

We walked past a few salubhttps://brettispaghettitravels.org/wp-content/uploads/2024/06/woman-traveling-in-france-2023-11-27-05-16-47-utc_Easy-Resize.com_.jpgus looking bars and opted to be back in our room just after 8.30pm. My perfect night out.

We’re looking forward to tomorrow’s adventures. We were so lucky with only a few spits of rain today, looking the same for tomorrow.
