Gallipoli Türkiye

Water water everywhere, even from our eyes.

11.10.25

We slept well in Cannakale, faffed about and headed off for the 11am ferry boat to Kilitbahir hoping to see a nice bakery on the way.

We didn’t see one, but if we had there’s no way we could have parked in the crazy small roads.

Loved this though . The wooden horse of Troya.

How cool is that!! Terrible video, I forgot to turn it off in my excitement.

We were in perfect time for an earlier boat than expected and set off straight away across the Dardanelles.

We thought it was going to be over 1000tl, but it was 700tl, just over 12 gbp.  (can’t find a pound sign on my new phone 🤣)

We  were in the right place should the worst happen.

The crossing was 10 minutes at most. We parked by Kilitli Castle, where we’ve visited before.

John is running a half marathon tomorrow and we should be near the start area unless they start closing roads and make us move.

First job, coffee. Second job a bit of boat spotting.

Enough of all that, I’m getting addicted!

John googled where to collect his race pack for tomorrow and has now set off for the 11.30 am ferry as it’s on the other side of the water…only 30tl as a foot passenger.

All  I can hear in my head is my brother in laws wise words ‘ fail to plan, plan to fail”.

He’ll be at least an hour, do I dare activate the toaster as it’s cloudy?

No toaster, John gets tetchy about the solar energy even when it’s blazing sunshine, so just sausage sandwiches, Made in Chelsea and more knitting.

Made in Chelsea turned into Married at First Sight as well, perfect with the occasional oil tanker and container ship passing by.

John returned shortly before 2pm, complete with race number, hat, t shirt, döner meat, chicken schnitzels and cola bottle sweets.

‘Let’s go for a walk’ he said.

I realised that sitting around forever being very content would only make me fat. Against my better judgement after seeing the black clouds, I reluctantly agreed. Luckily, or unluckily as it turned out I grabbed my jacket and brolly.

Within 10 minutes the wind became crazy, the rain started and my brolly is now drying in the bathroom sink even though it’s pretty much unusable.

Maisy made some new friends, one was especially lovely and they played nicely.

After drying off it was time for a nice afternoon film.

The Art of Racing in the Rain.

We were well and truly blubbing by the end.

Whilst eating our haloumi chilli & honey pasta the Trafic Polis turned up. We all had to move because of tomorrows race.

Oh well, it was lovely while it lasted.

Instead of driving towards Eceabat we drove past the castle and all the battlements and swung right along a muddy road with loads of rocks and a huge gulley that had been dug out along the left side.

John says I squealed too much, but I think it was about right.

My fears that it would get even narrower or be a dead end were unfounded and we’re now parked by a tea garden and a restaurant behind the castle. It’s a right hive of activity around here, but I do miss boat watching.

It was time for another dog themed film. Saved by Ruby. We didn’t cry, it was real feelgood even though I kept dozing off towards the end.

Tomorrow is the big half marathon day, John seems calmer than usual. The toe taping is taking place as I type.

The wind and rain have stopped and the forecast for tomorrow is good.
